Acupressure for Mental Health
Do you find yourself receiving medical care that does not address your mental health needs?
Have you often wished for an alternative way to physically and mentally heal beyond pharmacology?
Is your body holding on to trauma?
At Kairos, we are proud to offer Acupressure specifically designed for the treatment of anxiety and other mental health issues. While most clients experience a sense of well-being and relaxation during treatment, acupressure is underutilized in the West as a mental health wellness treatment.
Traditional Chinese medicine utilizes acupuncture to balance the flow of energy or life force — known as qi — through pathways (meridians) in your body.
By inserting needles into specific points along these meridians, acupressure practitioners assert that your energy flow will re-balance. The goal is not only to eliminate or alleviate symptoms but to treat the underlying issues that are dysregulating us.
Acupressure positively impacts mental health through the release of endorphins (the body’s natural opiate-like chemicals) that reduce pain, relieve stress, anxiety, and depression.
Acupressure can increase oxygen in the blood and has similar regulating effects to deep breathing exercises.
Acupressure affects nitric oxide, which allows more oxygen to flow in your bloodstream. Acupressure also works through stimulating the body’s natural system of vasodilation, the process of blood pumping through your veins.

Acupuncture also activates the parasympathetic nervous system, which reduces output of the stress hormone cortisol.
The parasympathetic system is our “rest and digest” system (in contrast to the sympathetic system which is our “fight or flight” mode). You may hear your belly start to gurgle when you receive an acupuncture treatment: strong evidence that your parasympathetic system has been activated.
By taking you out of “fight or flight” and into “rest and digest” mode, acupuncture tells your body to stop using up resources and start rebuilding and nourishing the areas that need attention. We only heal in a parasympathetic state.
Stress hormones, while necessary in small amounts, are released much too frequently in most people and are responsible for damage at all cellular levels in your body. Reducing the systemic response of cortisol production can significantly improve overall wellness.
Above all, acupuncture and Chinese traditional medicine believes in the unity of mind, body, and spirit. No one component can be healed in isolation. By treating the body with acupuncture, we open ourselves up to a deeper therapeutic journey and improve the efficacy of other interventions.
